Thirteen children aged between nine and sixteen, each denied the love and care of a family, are brought together to live at Saint Etheldreda’s Foundation. Saint Etheldreda’s Foundation was previously Saint Etheldreda’s Music School, run by Elizabeth, a young, insecure woman who suffers from devastating mood swings. She had stood before the final curtain of despair more than once.

A chance encounter with the principal of the Foundation, Miss Stratton, results in the Elizabeth returning to Saint Etheldreda’s. Through the wonders of music, lives are changed and a loving family is born.

Gill James has created a gripping narrative. I read the whole novel (and it is quite sizeable in pages) in two chunks. It would have been just one but I had to go to work. Detailed plot, interesting and finely drawn characters and a great premise. This isn't usually the sort of book, that I would read but this has certainly got me hooked on expanding my reading repertoire I will have to read the first three! Highly Recommended. A fabulous and gifted writer.

The Prophecy is a novel I hadn't heard much about until I picked it up last week. As someone who adores all things futuristic the premise defintely appealed to me, but I hadn't seen many reviews and so I wasn't sure what to expect. As it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised by this absorbing and unusual story set in the Earth's far distant future.

do not usually read young adult novels but I have to say this one had me gripped from the start. Set over 1000 years in the future, The Prophecy, as the name suggests, is centred around fulfilling a prophecy about peace at a time when people from different planets do not accept people for their differences and hence do not always live in harmony. The main protagonist Kaleem is unwittingly part of this prophecy. He has always been chastised for being different- but he is more different than he realises and is a Peace Child who has to fulfil The Babel Prophecy and restore univeral harmony. This book is a quest but one that deals with love, war,languages, being different and hope.

really enjoyed reading this book. There's loads of great descriptions about future technology and how different people live. The main character is likeable and although he's the hero of the story he makes mistakes which he learns from and isn't perfect, making him much more realistic.

Unique and fascinating exploration of sexuality through the lens of young adult dystopian fiction. Engaging characters and a fast moving plot made this a page turner that I was sad to finish. Shanta Everington has managed the difficult task of creating something new and exciting in the young adult fiction. A quality, enjoyable, thought provoking read for both young adults and adults alike. Loved it!!
