Narrating the story in the first person, Paula Readman truly gets inside the madman's head and gives the reader a chilling glimpse into what drives him.
I was totally engrossed by this character-driven suspense horror. It is dark, deep and thoughtful. No cheap thrills here, but pure artistry. Recommended.

This is a real page turner. James is broken and brutal but I felt for him from the very start and cared about what happened to him. All the characters are well rounded and the pace of the book keeps you wanting more.

The relationships James has with his parents, agent and other characters are all well written and add to the intrigue.

This is a refreshing take on crime novels and gives you a deep insight into the mind of James and his crimes.

The Book of Hazel by K.A. Dunn

Hazel is a teenage girl thrust into an unfathomable destiny.

She is supposed to be honoured to be chosen to die in just fifty days but Hazel refuses to accept her fate, and she clings to the futile hope of escaping her grim destiny.

In her final days within the foreboding walls of the Apis temple, Hazel seeks solace in the diaries left behind by her predecessors. She unearths some chilling secrets. There is something sinister and malevolent afoot.

Should she reveal all or will her death be the only way to protect those she holds dear?

Kate Dunn's The Book of Hazel is an enthralling journey of self-discovery and sacrifice that will leave readers questioning the nature of power, faith, and the ultimate cost of preserving the world as we know it.

On the Feast of Stephen

It's rotten having a birthday just before Christmas.

Sometimes Toby gets just one present for both his birthday and Christmas. Sometimes people just give him money because they've run out of present ideas.  Then when he comes to spend that money there's hardly anything left in the shops. It’s the same this year. He can't find any Lego bricks he wants.

An old man who reminds him of his Grandpa Jack is sitting cold and hungry on the street. Toby thinks of another use for his birthday money.  What he does afterwards reminds his Grandpa Jack of a well-known Christmas song.

On the Feast of Stephen by Gill and Ashleigh James is a feel-good story for early readers.
