The Post Box Topper Chronicles

A boring post box. Five knitters. Can one woman convert a post box into a work of artistic genius?

Vera Twinge is a natural leader. As chairperson of the newly formed Creaping Bottom Post Box Topper Society, she’s determined to make a splash in the village’s High Road with a stunning new post box topper for each month. But she’s constantly obstructed by an unscrupulous journalist, an insulted hairdresser and a possible mass murderer. Urging her society members on to create more ingenious toppers, Vera refuses to be defeated. But with negative reports in the local newspaper, a revenge haircut and the threat of alien invasion, Vera wonders if she is up to the task.

Will Vera and her post box topper society expose the strange happenings in Creaping Bottom and keep their beloved post box an object of beauty?

The newly formed Creaping Bottom Post Box Topper Society is determined to knit stunning post box toppers each month. Despite their January topper being labeled a disgrace and an eyesore by an anonymous email, the team continues knitting creatively themed toppers every month: hearts for February, daffodils and books for March, eggs for April, and a coronation topper for May. They begin to garner local and national sensation. With mysterious attempts to sabotage their toppers and more anonymous emails from the elusive A. Godbin, a vindictive hairstylist, and a peeved local journalist, the Society faces challenges beyond dropped stitches and thinking up creative toppers monthly. The Post Box Topper Chronicles by Dawn Knox is a lighthearted and endearing story that readers will relish. If the book cover did not give it away, The Post Box Topper Chronicles is a humorous, laugh-out-loud read filled with quirky and hilarious characters. Beryl constantly schemes to promote her coffee and cake shop, while Sally pines for the oblivious Levi. Stuart, the tight-fisted accountant, has a unique talent for lopsided knitting, and Vera, the group’s beleaguered Chairperson, keeps everything from unraveling. The book delights with its comedic elements, including alien sightings, a vengeful hairstylist, and the Creaping Bottom Post Box Topper Society's relentless planning for the next month’s post box topper, all amidst plenty of cake. Dawn Knox weaves together a tale of camaraderie, creativity, and the occasional chaos of community projects. This is a warm, humorous read that offers laughs and heartwarming moments, perfect for anyone needing a good chuckle and a cozy story.
Another wonderful and imaginative LOL book from Dawn - she is such a creative and able writer being able to put her hand to many different genres.
I was immediately drawn into the gentle yet up to date antics of the members of the Creaping Bottom Post Box Topper Society and was curious to see what each amazing monthly display would be.
I enjoyed participating in their meetings at Bonzer Buns with Beryl and her many "enterprising" cakes on offer. Also, loved her assistant Tilly and the cleaning obsessed friend Effie and her golf buggy cleaning trolley.
Dawn's imagination seems to work overtime with her ever-so-clever naming of the various members of the society and their very different characteristics - some quirky, some innocent and some completely mad ! This imagination also extends to the wider community of the village and the various enterprises they are involved in.
If you want a very amusing read - then don't hesitate to buy this book - would certainly recommend it as one of Dawn's best !!

The Post Box Topper Chronicles by Dawn Knox is a truly delightful read. It's packed with light-hearted humour. There were many laugh out loud moments and one or two tense bits when I really felt for Vera - the chairperson of The Post Box Topper Society.

As I read this story, which is full of visual images, I couldn't help wonder who I'd cast if it was made into a film - I know Dawn French isn't Australian, but I felt she'd make a good Beryl. I think the young forensic scientist from Silent Witness would make a good Liam and 'Mr Moseley' from Downton Abbey would be my Stuart. Maureen Lipman as Effie...I'm working on the rest.

You'll have to read it and make your own cast. This is a warm and funny farce with a cast of eccentric characters all clearly defined, each with their own idiosyncrasies.

We need stories like this to help us 'switch off' from the real world, if only for a little while.

Extraordinary

These stories – some light and some dark – were written over several years. A few, such as Henry’s Box, were the result of writing prompts from one of my writing groups, Basildon Writers, while others were sparked by random sights, such as someone’s tattoo, or by snatches of overheard conversation. As for the rest, I can’t recall any particular event triggering them, so can only conclude the initial idea popped into my head when I wasn’t paying attention. And sometimes I find those sort of stories turn out to be the strangest of them all. Whether you prefer light or dark stories, I hope there is something amongst this eclectic collection that will appeal to you.

Dawn Knox has created a lovely mix of horror, sci-fi and gently amusing short stories. These are great small bites to read when you're too busy to swallow a whole book at once - although having said that, I still found it difficult to put down! I found my "I'll just read one story as I eat lunch" turned in to 2 or 3! But I think my overall feeling is that they're so imaginative, far more than the usual run of short stories. Places, times and situations are all such that you might find in a full length novel. A great read.

Fantastic collection of short stories, wasn't sure if these would be my thing as I'm not really a sci fi type girl but I'm so glad I downloaded these as I really enjoyed them, in fact my favourite one of all turned out to be set on a space station lol. Definitely worth spending your pennies on and an author I will be looking out for in the future as I just love her writing.

What can I say, I loved Dawn's first novel and the amazing second novel but this book is in my playing field and I LOVE IT! amazing stories from the mind of someone who knows her topics. You will not be disappointed to go on these journeys and be as amazed as I am. Well Done to the author and I hope She will write more stories like these in the future.

The Basilwade Chronicles

The Basilwade stories were originally published on the CaféLit website, where you can access short stories that go nicely with a cuppa. We even suggest a drink! Dawn Knox’s stories contain characters and situations that may seem a little larger than life at first glance but we can soon see that everyone involved is very human. And don’t we all recognise the quirkiness of village/small-town life?

Come speed dating with clueless Derek, join knit and natter for unwanted beauty tips and marvel at Ichabod Bunch’s messages from beyond the grave.

Basilwade. Where else would you find so many zany characters to delight and surprise?

I've just finished reading this book and I found that once I'd started I couldn't put it down.
It never ceases to amaze me the amount of different subjects that Dawn can write about whether it be romance, science fiction, history or anything else.
This book had me laughing with every page I turned and I was quite disappointed when I had finished it. I hope there will be a Basilwade part two.
I look forward to Dawn's next book whatever subject she writes about.

I loved this book! A group of short stories that feature the same characters so it can be read as a book. Lots of real life situations and laugh out loud escapades! There is a link between each story with a character in the previous story going on to then have their own story which makes it enjoyable.
I didn’t want it to end!
I didn't mean to read this all in one sitting, but it was so funny, charming, and rollicking that I couldn't help myself and now my phone is in desperate need of charging (Kindle app).So here's the deal: picture Corner Gas as a series of character driven shorts following many characters, taking place in the English countryside. Perhaps Terry Pratchett wrote a couple of episodes and then Father Ted got into it as well. That might give you an idea of what to expect from this delightful and hilarious read.
I now need to read The Macaroon Chronicles because it looks amazing too.
Thanks to the author for giving me a copy in exchange for an honest review. Much appreciated as I haven't laughed that hard in a while!

The Macaroon Chronicles by Dawn Knox

"The Macaroon Chronicles" is a romp through relationships amongst some anthropomorphic characters. It is one of those quirky books that awakes your sense of humour. Come and follow the fun.Take a tour of the exotic Isle of Macaroon with Eddie and his zany friends who will be pleased to show you the cheese mines, Meringue Mountains and the Custard River while they flee unscrupulous promoters, bandit badgers and low-flying seagulls. But a word of advice – don’t refer to Eddie as a chicken, he thinks he’s a bald eagle. And don’t mention Brian’s small stature, he’s rather sensitive about his size. Oh, and don’t call Brian a monkey, he’s actually a lemur. And finally, if Gideon takes a pen out of his pocket and you value your life – duck.

'This book is a joyous romp through absurdity, where the characters are all animals, the scenery is mostly edible and the events propel the action at breakneck speed. And that alone makes it a feast of a read in these depressing days. But, seek deeper and you will find all the foibles of humanity illustrated by these engaging adventures, it's not Animal Farm, but a more gentle look at the everyday emotions of a group of friends battling their way through life.
Not to be missed. '

'This is an anthropomorphic romp guaranteed to cheer you up in these times of gloom and doom. The food imagery is delightful and the mad cap, border line crime scenarios in which the gang find themselves is plotted with verve and humour. The situations are not original but they are clearly written. If you're a fan of farce or good old fashioned slap stick this is a great read. The book cover says it all. Newly discovered writer from a quirky, independent publisher of quality writing.'

'Join this bunch of strange animals as they have to escape the grips of their new manager, get sued for making clothes out of cheese, deal with a crafty car park attendant/mechanic, and become associated with a real-life spy, and this is just the start of their journey.'
